Introvert in an Extroverted Workplace
This is getting awkward.
I know I should not write this early in the morning, but I think this is time to take the opportunity to write up about my thoughts about being that introvert in a place where extroverts rule. And this is the most daring thing I will ever write.
In my previous line of work at a shopping mall, I was able to become who I really am because I was only one of three persons inside our department office. My colleagues are extroverted, but it was very bearable. They're only two of them. Not only that, our I.T. office is big enough and quiet enough that I can "recharge" without lots of people bothering you.
Now take that situation to my present line of work - being a teacher. Yup, being a teacher is a lot more about being "extroverted" all the time, because it involves constant interaction with your students - the very clients you transact with. My colleagues are not just two or three, but 30++ of them, including your bosses! It was a draining situation...
Yes, I am good at teaching. I know I have been improving my craft of teaching, It's just that I could not cope up yet with the need to show myself in public, spending my energy to look like someone else. I tried to become a host, a ramp model, and a performer at that, but it drains a lot of energy in me.
I need some "me" time, and I need it really.
