Taking the Game to CNN

Image
Wouldn't it be nice if news anchors made a report on the launch of a video game featuring a famous rock band of long ago? A report last September on the video game "The Beatles-Rock Band" got the anchors of CNN International - Hong Kong rocking and beating in with the music of this fun game. Anna Coren, Kristie Lu Stout, Andrew Stevens and Eunice Yoon tried the video game with its initial launch. I never thought Anna and Kristie sings well. (laughs) The way Andrew flicked those drumsticks were awkward but, well, enjoying. Eunice got those guitars flicking well too. If only Anjali Rao were there too... KENNETH

A New Look for ASL

Image
I haven't posted anything new in the past 4 weeks since I have been busy doing school & ministry tasks. But let me announce you that my blog, A Stellar Life, will shift into its new look by the end of this year, ending the poor look it had during this year. Also, through its new look, this will take ASL into its Alpha stage of its version 4.0 as I will remove unnecessary widgets and put on new ones. I will still keep links to my fellow bloggers who followed me. Catch into this new look and I will hope that this will bring more viewers into this blog. I pray for it. :-) KENNETH

Over a Cup of JAVA

Image
Life has never been so soothing when I got my cup of you, JAVA . Soothing. Relaxing. Enticing. Rich. Bittersweet. Oh, JAVA. How dark your essence is. How rich you can do for my everyday. Oh, JAVA. How could I never be wrong? When I met you, JAVA, I ever said to everyone: " Hello world! I finally took a cup of JAVA!" My dear, your Asian features enticed me. You can go public like the geishas of Kyoto. You can go private like the office women of Hong Kong. But for me, you are protected by me, my love, for you are like the dayang-dayang , a majestc princess of Indonesia. You also amazed me for your work seamlessly everywhere. You are beautiful in the great Windows of the mansions of Bill Gates . Steve Jobs craved for your alluring body, and he made you Apple-flavoured. Linus Torvalds and his chubby penguin Tux wanted to hug your ever-enduring cups. I met another named " C ", then she grew up and multiplied herself with classes. Now her daughter is known as "

When?

Image
Many times I ignored God's little ting-a-ling when I am continuing to walk in His ways. The result: cursed, unfruitful, dry. But now, I could not take it anymore. I have to be in His shadow, under His covering so I can truly hope for a future that is in line with His ways. God is Good and I could not ever take it for granted. While I am persevering in the Vision, I am still chained over by my family's unbelief that I turned away from their ways. I didn't follow them in how they pray, I didn't follow them in how they worry about life. I wanted to cry out to God - why did You have to say I don't have to worry about anything when my family tends me to follow with their worries? Whenever I am spending time in the LORD, I come with revelations about my disciples, my life in school, my life in the ministry, but where is in my family ? I don't know why, but how come He hasn't showed it yet? Is my heart not yet right to receive the Word that He wants to share to

Waiting for the Perfect Time

Image
Dear friends, I'm spending my 30 minutes on the Internet while the exams have not yet been starting this week. Hindi ako mapakali nang nawawalan ako ng pagkakataon makipagsaya sa aking mga naging kaibigan sa Simbahan. It seems I could not think of a way to make up with my lost opportunities of being one with my fellow leaders in the Church. It seems the LORD has tapping me to spend time with my family. I lost so much time with them when I am not around, being with school and with the ministry. Yes, I do believe in the 5 Priorities in Life: God, Self, Family, Ministry, Work/School . Sometimes, it breaks me to realize that I'm not enjoying the life that God wants me to have. It seems that things are too much tight for me right now. It seems a cloud of confusion has elevated in my mind. My mind has been functioning too hard that I could not concentrate on taking change in my heart, to set it to God's own will.   14 Wait on the LORD;          Be of good courage,

My FIRST 1.0!

Image
I'm just so happy today that I received my very first 1.0 grade in my study in UP Mindanao! I got my 1.0 in AH4/HUM1 (Adventures in Fiction, Poetry and Drama), under the supervision of Prof. Jhoanna Lynn Cruz. In this course, my mind was tickled with the many literature works that Prof. Cruz has shared to us - short stories, novel excerpts, poems, plays, even a 1950s movie adaptation of a Japanese classic! We ended with a play production that went very successfully. So, I'm so blessed to have a 1.0; it's God's grace that worked. More to come! KENNETH

CNN International: Going Beyond Borders

Image
From having you "be the first to know" , now CNN International makes you " go beyond borders" . Since 21 September 2009, CNN International got its new on-air look and feel, with its new tagline to "Go Beyond Borders". I don't know why I'm fond of CNN right now. CNN makes news more exciting for me. I don't know what I get from the CNN effect... KENNETH

Trading Partners...and More

Image
Our AH4/HUM1 lineup of play productions, with plays written by BA English students for their CW130 (Playwriting) class, are still up and going. This is our final project for this term, under the supervision of our AH4/HUM1 instructor, Prof. Jhoanna Lynn Cruz. Trading Partners, a play by Kelly Marie Conlon (who recently won the EU Whiz competition and just came home from a European tour ), is about a couple who had a turmoiled marriage after the husband had affairs with a gay boss, while the wife, a dance instructor, had a relationship with one of her students. The cast, shown in the photo are: L-R seated: Jan Reynald Shane Coquilla (1-BSFT) as Kevin , the dance student; Kriza Faye Calumba (1-BSFT) as Marcia , the dance instructor/wife; Patrick Deo dela Cruz (1-BSFT) as Allan , the estranged husband; and (standing) Kenneth Porio [ME!] as Donnie, the gay boss and ex-lover of Allan. This is my first theater role since I left Colegio de San Ignacio, my Alma Mater, and my first tim

Discr[ete] Relief

Image
Oh, well, I'm back to what I thought was my Waterloo topic in CMSC57 last year: Recurrence Relations and Generating Functions . As I don't want to fail again to look at that definition again that linear homogenous recurrence relations of degree d with constant coefficients (whew!) are of this form: and generating functions are of this form: , I skimmed through a few in the myriads of books on Discrete Math. I'm so happy that my family gave me a chance to hold a copy of Discrete Mathematics and its Applications by Kenneth Rosen, and it gave me hope in those previous topic discussed which were combinatorics and graph theory. My instructor, Prof. Vanessa Ramoran mostly uses Rosen in her discussions, which gave me some sort of relief. (Good thing the author's name is same as mine. LOL X-D) Rosen also has a preview of the topics relating to my future Computer Science courses: Logic Circuits and Boolean Algebra for CMSC130 and Automata Theory for CMSC141. I'm look

Atsal

Image
Natilaw nako ang atsal sa usa ka platitong kalderetang kambing. Lami nga pagka-parat nga pagka-halang. Lamas ra man na ang atsal. Walay hinabang gayud. Pero kon walay atsal dili lami ang nakaon nimong pagka-lami sa pagka-sarsa. KENNETH Atsal is a Cebuano term for bell pepper .

Selling Books

Image
I'm planning to sell or lease these books I currently have above in the next semester so that they will be of good use to my fellow UPians in their subjects. Elements of Style will be useful in AH1/COMM1 or AH2/COMM2. Discrete Mathematics... by Rosen will be useful in CMSC56/57 or MATH101. I'll think it over first... KENNETH

Rumi and Me

Image
I dared to ask this question in my mind: “Will I be a person who will be remembered a lot here in UP?” To that, Rumi “answers” through a line of one of his poems: “Fall into his hands and you will weep like a cloud; Run from him and you will freeze over like snow.” While pondering upon Rumi's “answer”, I thought if I became too proud of myself lately. I became too selfish and self-centered. I did not care if I ruined the pride of my family, my friends – my whole circle of life. I began to catch a realization that the pronoun him refers to my God. I ran away from God and turned to my own way of showing myself that I am a student of UP, without recognizing my relationship to him. These days I feel so cold about my relationship to God, to my family and friends. I feel so empty inside that I am not really enjoying my growth as a person and as a part of the society. The Word of God says that when we draw near to him, fall into his hands, then we will weep in our sorrows while we

Finding the Short Way

Image
Short ways are not always the right ways. It takes an algorithm to find the path that leads you to success. Infinite it was, finite I found it now. My path starts: zero, A; my path ends: x, Z. x: the length of the short way. Z the endpoint. Finding it took a long way. Think it over, quick! swiftly! O the infinity sign, get lost on that table! I need the path - the short way. Make my node permanent. I'll trace it when I end. Yes...A to Z. A to Z - the path - short way. Why it has to have a long way for the short way to be known? Maybe that's the way it should be; shortcuts take a long time...long time. Dijkstra, my dear. I see how you did it. Others have done their own proper way. But nothing in theirs is short. Never ever short. KENNETH (Fumbling over Dijkstra.)

Tech Talk

Image
CNN.com posted an article about " The 12 most annoying types of Facebookers " which is about types of Facebook users who become an annoyance, and NetworkWorld via BusinessWeek posted " 12 Words You Can Never Say in the Office " which is about the 12 tech terms that are becoming obsolete. Being a Facebook and Twitter user, with a sense of knowing what's in and what's out in the tech world, I took the interest to dig in. Here's a video from the CNN.com article about comparing and contrasting Facebook and Twitter, and three people discuss about Facebook's and Twitter's usability and popularity. Embedded video from CNN Video There's a quiz included in the article and my result: Chances are you are a popular resident on Facebook whose articles are interesting to read. Keep posting! Maybe I'm not annoying after all in FB. The 12 tech terms that are becoming obsolete, according to the NewsWeek article, are as follows: Intranet, Extra
