Quality Improvements? Why Not?

Image
It's really great that I am improving my quality each and every day. In this livestreaming that I had, I explained some things that I want to improve with myself in light of the COVID-19 crisis, and also how will I take my online presence to a whole new level.

I am Meant for Something More

Image
In the confinements of home For quite some time, I am trying to cope with the changes coming my way as I transition from teacher to trainer and freelancer. As the "summer" term comes in the way for our school, only a number of teachers will be given a teaching load, and I am one of those teachers who won't be given load this year. As such, I will have to make do with this time to not only earn money but continue learning. I have been contemplating on making freelancing my priority career path in the next few months. I want to see if freelancing indeed works for me compared to my full-time teaching. Why? With the COVID-19 situation still lingering, I am very confident that working from home will be the norm, and I feel that with the circumstances I have, my career as an educator will not be sustainable in the long run. Honestly, having a work background that was based around being an office cubicle, and later on, having contact with 30 to 40 students at any giv...

Life of a Church Worker

Image
I love serving the Lord with gladness, and I desire to bring our church to the level where God takes us. That is why I am dedicated to serve the Multimedia ministry of Destiny Church Davao. For almost 5 years, I have gone through a lot in serving in many different tasks of the church's media ministry - from photo and video editing, lights and sounds, to projection. My heart is for the service of bringing Christ to the people, especially those who attend our services every Sunday. Every Sunday is an adventure. Every Sunday is an opportunity to improve, to improvise, to innovate. All that I do can make or break the church service, that is why I had to train myself all the time with the new trends in video and graphics so I can improve my craft.  Not only that, the whole week I also work for the other events and functions in church like our Acoustic Night Life, Students of Destiny Life Party, mission gatherings and many more. Thanks to my leader Pastor Dean Ma...

Return to Blogging

It's 11 p.m. Tired but not yet ready to sleep. Yes. I wanna pass the time and with that I wanted to return to this blog of mine. While I wanted to get myself involved in many places, nothing beats the joy of typing away your feelings on my computer in the comfort of my bedroom. Blogging was my pasttime and with that I wanted to bring this habit back as I desire to teach my students soon about how to blog and becoming a blogger. Yes, you heard it right. I am now a teacher. Long story, but will share that story soon enough. Hope to see you soon!

Career Shift

Yes. I am doing a career shift. This time, I am going to be in the academe. In an unexpected turn of events just before I left my former workplace, I was accepted to become a computer instructor at one of the prominent internationally-acclaimed local institutions in Davao City. Honestly, I was unprepared for that event, and I am still in shock and awe. I was just reminded how the Lord promised me during one of my quiet times: "Delight in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4) All I did was to take delight in God's graces, obey His commands and follow His ways - and that desire came: to be able to teach students, which I yearned for in years, and to pass on my knowledge to them. I believe this is also my moment to let my talents shine even more. A new, improved, upgraded and revised version of myself is coming! I am very excited!

Akalain Mo Naman: A 2013 Year Ender - Part 1

Image
What a year full of blessings! Buti Nga’t Naka-Graduate! Nung papasok pa lang ang 2013, my hopes to graduate seemed to be fading away. Remember that I was studying at the country’s premier University, the University of the Philippines. Noong 2012, kahit nakapag-submit naman ako ng proposal para sa Special Problem (SP, thesis equivalent), hindi ko naman nai-implement ang project ko kahit isang modu...

Before I Graduate

Image
Things have been going well for me this last semester of mine in UPMin. My schedule's not so tight anymore, although I still have my Special Problem to manage. Only two CS major courses are left for me: Networking, and Automata Theory. Oh, well, this semester has been proven quite challenging for me, since I'm having a new Special Problem adviser. It also happened he is my batchmate who graduated on time. So, it's a bad choice between being comfortable with him as a batchmate and being awkward having to communicate as a faculty member. But nevertheless, I have to do my big part to finish this project of mine once and for all. My job with Himati coincided with my SP as well, since my topic involved the publication. After being a video blogger for two terms, I decided to move on and become mainly the Online Services Developer for the student publication. It's quite stressful having to communicate with the staff regularly to gather their feedback about my project....

Junk Food: More Fun in the Philippines?!

Image
CNN's Kyung Lah talks to a local woman seeking for pagpag. CNN International has been running reports on the Philippines through its Eye On... series. The week-long coverage will cover the best sites of the Philippines, the emerging economy, its governance and current issues like poverty. Speaking of poverty, the news network broadcasted this report by Kyung Lah about a practice that is happening in the depressed slums of Manila. Pagpag is a Tagalog term which means "to dust off." But in the context of these poverty-stricken communities, pagpag is food thrown off by restaurants that are being recovered by these poor people and are being re-cooked for their consumption. Dennis Villegas made an excellent write-up on pagpag and how it has been affecting the urban poor community. This report clearly shocked a lot of Filipinos who could afford to subscribe to cable television and watch CNN. Reactions from social media indicate this is a report that ...

Philippine Azkals: The Men Who Started it All (Part 4)

Image
This is Part 4 of a series of posts about the men behind the rise of the Azkals. You are encouraged to read Part 1 , Part 2 and Part 3 of this series.  Next on Hans Michael Weiss ’s assignments was the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. The qualifiers were done for the first time since 2002, wherein the nation was one of a very few that did not enter to qualify for the 2006 and 2010 editions. And during those attempts to qualify for the event in the past, the national team only got stuck in the first round, losing with big margins to Asian neighbours. But with an even deeper lineup made by the man, Dan Palami, the coach was sure for his team to, at least, break the record to get to the second round. Many of the Filipinos have wanted to see their team making it to the main 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil. But he was pragmatic to say that it’s too early to say the Azkals would be there. He knows the team has potential, but it would take a very long time to see the results. ...

Philippine Azkals: The Men who Started it All (Part 3)

Image
This is Part 3 of a series of posts about the men behind the rise of the Azkals. You are encouraged to read Part 1 and Part 2 of this series. As Englishman Simon McMenemy left his post as coach of the Philippine national football team, the Azkals, a German came to the scene. And upon his arrival, many of the football enthusiasts were curious on whom he is and what can he do to bring his new wards to greater heights. He was part of an aid package by the German Football Federation (DFB) to the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) which includes some equipment, training camps, coaching courses, and an undisclosed financial grant, allegedly amounting to around €500,000. Therefore, the PFF did nothing to get this coach and all these perks into the team; it was because the PFF did something for the DFB to send these to help the Philippine team. And that man is named Hans Michael Weiß. (Yes, it should be spelled that way. But since many of our Pinoy readers don...

Philippine Azkals: The Men Who Started it All (Part 2)

Image
This is Part 2 of a series of posts about the men behind the rise of the Azkals . Click here to go to Part 1. At that very moment, Simon McMenemy , the coach of that team which would soon leave the dark age of Philippine football, stood on that ground that was a potential haven for emerging talent. Together with team manager Dan Palami, he wanted his team to be the best they are with. Palami, that Waray  manager who came to action for a struggling team, made huge sacrifices for his wards. He spent his own money to subsidize the air fares of  majority of the players. He sponsored the meals of the players before and after every training session and every game. He sits down with the team at the sidelines during every game. He sometimes provides emotional support for those who miss their loved ones overseas. As I said previously, he takes care of these men like they were his children . With him on their sides, their morale just accelerated like ...

Philippine Azkals: The Men who Started It All (Part 1)

Image
All it took was a shocking, stunning, gut-wrenching, heart-stopping upset. Tens of thousands of Vietnamese at the My Ðính stadium in Hanoi, with millions who were watching on TV screens across South East Asia, could not believe their eyes as their team lost to whom they've called whipping boys, minnows, and weaklings. And those brave men whom they've labeled with came out in high spirits that they have finally overcome the odds. With that victory, the world had their utmost respect and appreciation. Who to thank for? The man who started it all, Dan Stephen Palami . For many years the men we fondly call the Azkals had hoped for someone who would nurture them, support them and care for them, even if their fellow countrymen never dared to know them all. Someone who would be there all the way, through their ups and downs, through their joys and sorrows. Someone who will not be moved by the cruelties of the corrupt place that was Philippine sports. Someone who would sacrifice ...
