Getting to UP Mindanao: Part 2

Hello again!

To the newest addition to the University of the Philippines Mindanao family, welcome to UP Life! If you're not from Davao City, then welcome to Davao Life as well!

Welcome to the Getting to UP Mindanao series, where we give you tips on how to travel to the University of the Philippines Mindanao via the major thoroughfares of Davao and its terminal areas.

Part 2: Anchor in Davao

Well, after that long week-long travel by boat, you safely landed at the Port of Davao (in Sasa, Davao City) and you (and your family) would like to take your first glimpse of the University. So, how would you get to UPMin by land via the seaport? If you're short on the budget to ride a taxi, here are some directions you that would hopefully enjoy your travel to University.

Step 1: Walk away from the seaport (via the exit at Kilometer 11-12) and cross the road (the Davao-Agusan Highway) infront of you.

Step 2a: Like my previous post, ride a jeepney with the following routes that bear the "Roxas Ave." signboard, such as:

Trivia: There are two ways to get to these Bunawan/Lasang/Tibungco-Roxas Avenue routes. One, via Buhangin (where the airport is located) through the Diversion Road, and two, via Sasa, through the Davao-Agusan Highway.

Tell the driver to drop you off at the Ateneo de Davao University located at Roxas Ave. (But this is not where you are going to, aren't you?)

The approximate fare: Php 15.00.

But hey, wanna get another suggestion? Here's another way.

Step 2b: You may take this route that goes through the Bankerohan Public Market, a hub for some jeepneys that are mentioned at Step 3.

Tell the driver to drop you off to the Bankerohan Public Market area at the corner between San Pedro Street and E. Quirino Avenue. Mark the traffic light in front with this signboard as a reference.

The approximate fare: Php 17.00. But it's worth it seeing the Bajada district.

Step 3: Ride a jeepney with the routes bearing the "Mintal" or "Calinan" signboard, such as:

Tell the driver to drop you off at the Mintal Public Market.

The fare: PhP 20.00.

Or, if you want to be sosyal or just plain comfortable, you may take an air-conditioned Mitsubishi L300 jeepney stationed at Bankerohan, as said in Step 2b. You'll just add an extra PhP 3.00 to the fare 'cause it's aircon.

Step 4: At Mintal, ride a tricycle (known locally as the Princess), and tell the driver to bring you to UP Mindanao.

The fare: Php 14.00 if you're alone PhP 8.00 each if you're with 2 or more people.

Then, that's it. Check out Part 3 of the Getting to UPMin series. Next: Getting to UPMin via Davao City Overland Transport Terminal in Ecoland.

Cheers to your new life in UP, freshie!
