My Desire Came True

Image
Finally, the mobile PC I've been longing for has arrived. I've been longing for something I can bring and compute on the go. I needed for something I can be productive with anywhere I go. And there were lots of features I desired for . I've been interested in the world of netbooks and other ultra-portable PCs. They had the most decent of features that makes computing more personal and meaningful. And with the rising trend of these lilliputians comes a competition: tablet PCs , set to become a trending craze this 2011. But I doubt the tablet PC will become a trend when it comes to practical computing: word processing, presentations, data analysis, and software development. But I will see what the future will bring to these computers with the capable of being touched with. :-) It was just weeks ago that I wished a mobile PC will come at my lap where I can fast-track my projects as my aging sick Pentium 4 desktop can't cope with my software. Not to mention the tr...

Are We Doubtful to the Lilliputians?

Image
The year 2007 was the start of the era of netbooks , small, lightweight and inexpensive laptops that Intel says were meant to be "designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet." But given its form factor, which is too much similar to a traditional laptop: flip-top clamshell look, LCD or LED screens, small keyboard, touchpad as a mouse (with one or two exceptions), running on batteries - it is meant to be a computer on the go. Given that netbooks run operating systems also found in desktops and traditional laptops, it is also meant for those usual computing tasks: word processing, spreadsheets, maybe a little casual gaming. But Intel says the netbook is not powerful enough to run applications such as photo editors, video editors, audio mixers, HD media players, and even programming environments. The question now is that: why do customers still opt for these little laptops? It has been long a time that the most powerful desktop computers that existed 10 y...

Netbook or Tablet?

Image
Lilliputian laptop or gigantic touchscreen? Desktop OS or Touch-panel OS? Windows or Ubuntu or Android or iOS? WHAT'S YOUR SAY? The tablet (or slate or touchscreen) PC, also known as a mobile Internet device (MID), is a computer which has functions that enable users to consume media content. The Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and many other devices out there sport all screen, without the keyboard or mouse, and a few ports for accesories. Its interface is touch-based, which can make reading e-books, playing games, watching videos or Internet surfing easy, although typing or spreadsheet creation will be quite cumbersome. Tablets are more of content consumption . The netbook (or sub-notebook or mini-laptop) is a smaller, more lightweight version of the traditional laptop. It features the same features of a usual laptop or desktop - keyboard, touchpad (for a mouse), screen, and a decent amount of ports for peripherals - USB ports, a D-Sub VGA port or HDMI port, an Ethernet port...

COS You're A Headcrab Zombie

Image
Admit it. You're a freak. You would like to stay awake all day finishing Half-Life and Half-Life 2 which are filled with monstrosities. Especially headcrab zombies . You desire to kill each and everyone of these infested humans with those weird-looking spider-like creatures attached to their heads. And you would wonder why they mutate with the following attributes: Hands that turn into long claws Shuffling gait Rotten smell that flies get into them (and you usually hear them buzzing in HL2 ) Bloody clothes Screams of pain  And an open torso, exposing their precious lungs. It would look great in costume parties in Halloween or even in cosplays at the mall. Why should you like them? 'COS You're a Headcrab Zombie. You desire for flesh. You desire for excitement. You desire for horror. And that's the good part in video games, right? KENNETH

It Has Been Twenty-Ten

Image
Two thousand and ten. Dalawang libo't sampu Dos mil dies Twenty Ten. The year that was became a symbol of my re-thinking my concept of innovation. As doors closed, others opened for me. And why has it become a year of innovation ? It was a year to make more time to rethink my life as a Dabawenyo, an Iskolar ng Mindanao . It was a year of knowing the truth - Because Truth Matters. (TM) It was a year to re-imagine my expressions. It was a year to make new ways to cover the news. And that truly was innovation. I hope 2011 will be better. Anyways, The Year 2010 according to me (reblog from  samsnch ). What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?  Be on cam. Cuss a boss younger than me. Be on national television. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?  No NYR for me. Did anyone close to you give birth?  A family friend, and lots of relatives. Did anyone close to you die? Our pet dog. What countri...

What I Need to Have on a Mobile PC

Image
With the previous post I had because of my desperation of having a mobile PC, I'm considering the pros and cons: PROS: I can have a computer that I can work on wherever I go. I can have something to work on when I am in school. I can just tote it off from the bag and compute al pronto (if it will be a netbook or a smaller/lighter laptop). I can do my programming and typing tasks right there. I can surf the Internet at school without paying additional fees using computers at the IT Kiosk, the CSM Library, or the ILC/LRC. I can have a computer that runs on batteries so AC power will not be much a problem when I run it at home or at school. CONS: My family has a limited budget; we have to tap relatives. I have to suffer more luggage load (if ever it will be a full-sized laptop). My brother or sister might borrow it in case he will need it at school. I might still use our desktop in case it will not function as expected (if it will be a netbook). ...and the list grows. So, what ...

Christmas without Christ is Dead

Image
This year, I'll join my mom in celebrating the Simbang Gabi, a 9-day eucharistic activity before the start of Christmas. Yes, this is very hard for me personally since I've been on hiatus from the Lord of the Harvest (LTH) Christian Community since April, and I've been on a faith crisis since I left the leadership of LTH. Yes, I missed those days being with LTH, and I only meet my church fellows at school or whenever I bump with them. "Kumusta," one leader asked me, "dugay na ta wa' nagkita..." I kept silent of the reasons why I went off with attending services at LTH. I don't know if leaving LTH was a good reason. I don't know if leaving the G12 system was a good reason. I felt it was quite a very stupid decision to make since many have left G12 churches because the system is rigid and bureaucratic. My parents condemn Christian churches, because they allege them of getting too much from its members. But I don't think all of them ...
